Creating windows of opportunity for young people
The Look Lively Project is a one-year health programme funded by the St Ann’s Partnership (Neighbourhood Element) and is a joint initiative between the Corner House Youth Project and Stockton’s Prevention Unit.
There are two workers attached to the project a Parent Support and Outreach worker (Sara Pearson) and a Children and Young Person’s Detached Youth Worker (Christine Pratt) with additional support from existing staff and the partner agencies.
Whilst the project focuses on healthy lifestyles for children aged between 5-11, we are aware that for any real changes in lifestyles parents/carers also need to be involved.
The role of the Parent Support and Outreach Worker is therefore not only to support the work of the youth worker, but also to offer individual support to the parents/carers on issues that are affecting their parenting abilities. The Look Lively Project isn’t about delivering services but to provide specific support to families, children and young people in accessing what is already available to them, getting the best out of their own community and neighbourhood.
The Children and Young People’s Detached Youth Work will offer ‘street based’ activities involving both children and families in games-promoting play and sport. The Look Lively Project can only accept referrals for children and families living in the Portrack, Tilery, Victoria, Queens Park and Mount Pleasant neighbourhoods.
