Creating windows of opportunity for young people

 11 Million Takeover Day!

7 young people from The Corner House took part in 11 Million Takeover Day. The National event gives an opportunity for young people to have a voice and have a go at doing someone’s job for the day.

Our young people had a variety of opportunities. 2 went to work at Stockton Library and met an author and worked with staff on the development of the library. Chloe, one of the young people who attended said “It was really good and the author was really funny!”

1 young person got to attend the Arc and become a part of the management team for the day; Zoe took bookings for events and got to work backstage. She said, “I had a great day! I could work there when I’m older!”

4 other young people had the opportunity to work with staff here at The Corner House, Rakeem, Kelly, Symone and Lauren, all had a brilliant day.

Rakeem got to work with Nicky Hanif, helping with our Café 66 session and planning the BME boys group.

Kelly worked with our project director Jacky Duncan, she had a great day being boss and attending meetings!

Symone was head chef for the day alongside Graham Durham; she made an amazing chocolate cake for the people who attended the Café 66 session.

Lauren worked alongside Jeanne Allison for the day, experiencing the Café 66 session and planning and preparing for the Junior Youth Club at Arlington Park. Lauren said, “It was really good working with Jeanne. I want to be a youth worker at the Corner House now!”

Everyone involved had a great day, we look forward to next years 11 Million Takeover Day!
